Disposable air filters come in several different styles but the more commonly called “throwaway filters” are the fiberglass weave filters that are designed to meet the minimum requirements of protecting the air conditioner and/or heating equipment. Many Disposable filters are 1” thick and provide a adequate filtration and have a life expectancy of about one month before the filter will need to replaced.

However, due to advanced technology and manufacturers completing for market share, there are now disposable pleated air filters with high MERV ratings. These disposable home furnace filters provide Allergy-free air filtration. The filters also contain a minimum MERV 6 efficiency rating. Other features include, pleated design for trapping more allergens and 90% more efficient than a flat style central air filter. The other advantage to pleated air filters is the simple fact that they last up to three times longer than cheap fiberglass filters.

Pleated air filters are our number one used and recommended disposable filter. They are cost effective and efficient for the majority of homes in America.
